Peter Sakai Announces his Candidacy for 225th District Court; Experienced Judge to Continue to Serve as an Advocate for Bexar County Children

(San Antonio, Texas) December 28, 2005- Peter Sakai, former Associate Judge of the Bexar County Children's Court, announces on Wednesday that he is officially running for the 225th Judicial District Court during a press conference on December 28th, 2005 at 10:30 am at the Sunken Garden Depot/ Eagle Express Train at Brackenridge Park (St. Mary's Street entrance).

An experienced attorney and counselor at law for over 26 years, Mr. Sakai is ready to bring his judicious insight, temperament and wisdom to the 225th District Court which oversees the Children's Court, a department that has thrived under his direction for the last 11 years. During his time as Associate Judge, Mr. Sakai has resolved thousands of child abuse, neglect and family violence cases and challenged the child welfare system to effectively serve the families that come into the courtroom in an effort to prevent child abuse and neglect.

In fact, Mr. Sakai's dedication to children has led to a 1000% increase in the number of adoptions in Bexar County by foster parents or reunited with parents who were formerly unable to care for their children. As a result, over the last ten years, the Children's Court in Bexar County has become a national model recognized for its success in helping parents with addiction issues in the Drug Treatment Court as well as its Family Group Conferencing program which brings families together to promote healing and safe reunions.

At the press conference, Mr. Sakai will make the official announcement of his candidacy. Attendees, which will include families directly impacted by Mr. Sakai's work at the Children's Court, will enjoy balloons and a ride on the Eagle Express Train through Brackenridge Park in celebration of Mr. Sakai's commitment to children's welfare issues.

"Although I am saddened about my departure from the bench of the Children's Court, I am eager to positively affect Bexar County children in the 225th District Court," says Sakai. "My role as an advocate of children will not change. I will continue to work to empower families, protect children and improve the child welfare system."
