San Antonio Hispanic and Community Leaders Endorse
Peter Sakai for 225th Judicial District; Leaders Recognize Sakai's Contributions
as an Advocate for Bexar County Children
(San Antonio, Texas) January 14, 2006- Peter Sakai, former Associate
Judge of the Bexar County Children's Court, was unanimously endorsed by
San Antonio's Hispanic and Community Leadership during a breakfast, press
conference and block walking campaign on Saturday, January 14, 2006. The
breakfast began at 10:00 a.m. at the Salsa Mora Restaurant, 502 S. Zarzamora
and was followed by a press conference at 10:30 a.m. and block walking
on the west side immediately after.
An experienced attorney and counselor at law for over 26 years, Mr. Sakai
announced his candidacy for the 225th District Court on December 28th,
2005, a position which would enable him to oversee the Children's Court,
a department that thrived under his direction for the last 11 years. Among
the list of Sakai's supporters who attended the event were Councilwoman
Patti Radle, Councilwoman Delicia Herrera, Commissioner Paul Elizondo,
Mary Alice Cisneros and several AFLCIO leaders including Jaime Martinez,
who served as emcee for the event, Rosa Rosales, Angie Garcia and Nick
Pena.
At the event, community leaders gave Sakai their unanimous endorsement
and recognized Sakai for his unwavering dedication to helping children
and their families in Bexar County recover from the pain of abuse, neglect
and abandonment.
"Peter Sakai is the natural choice for this position," said
Patti Radle, councilwoman for District 5. "I am sure that he will
lead the court to continue their impressive track record as a resource
for children who might otherwise be abandoned by the child welfare system."
Councilwoman, Delicia Herrera, of District 6, agreed. "Peter Sakai
is an experienced judge who knows that the key to helping children in
need is to empower them and their families," she said. "His
record shows that his goal was not to simply pass children through the
system to an uncertain end but, instead took the time and made the effort
to lead, guide and help them make healthy connections that would improve
their lives."
Mary Alice Cisneros, who serves as Sakai's campaign treasurer added, "I
think that the community will find that Peter Sakai is a true advocate
for children--- a person who backs up his words with action and makes
great strides in the fight against child abuse and abandonment."
